Finished with Twitter

I will not be deleting my account because a situation may arise where I will want to make posts but the mode I had been following over the past several months is finished. I was spending too much time for too little return.

I do appreciate my followers and I want you to know that I will miss those of you who interacted with me from time to time. I will likely be visiting the financial blogs posted on the andilinks home page and will be posting comments on those blogs.

I'm sorry to see you go, and especially b/c you felt that it was too much time for too little ROI. That indicates to me that you didn't have the right strategy, or your expectations were set wrong. Twitter takes time, yes. Especially to build a following of like-minded people, but it doesn't take that much time. Would love to hear what you thought you were going to get out of it and what directed you to that set of expectations, and then of course - how much time you actually were putting in...etc. I guess you are the first person to quit Twitter that I follow, etc - so I am just curious!
Sorry to see you go!

Jenni I must necessarily have set my expectations too high though I don't think I had any fantasy of where this might lead, I was simply spending several hours a day. A few days ago it occurred to me that the pattern I was developing was very similar to what I was doing on AOL back in the mid-90's. I was having fun then with that but I ended it because it was not satisfying either as a means of expression or social medium and I suppose this Twitter quitting is similar.

It is possible that after some time and reflection I may return but that is the best I can do for now to explain my absence.

I want to say that while I have not always agreed with your opinions and analysis, I have appreciated your often methodical arguments on political topics. And I am one twitter reading that will miss your posting because you have helped me question my own opinions.

Thanks!

Tom

Andi - I will miss your posts. I often agreed with you and always enjoyed the intelligence behind all your tweets. What motivated you to tweet to begin with? What return did you expect? Good luck, @mysticmaverick

Tom and @mysticmaverick thank you for the kind words. My initial motivation was to connect with people and I suppose I did that. I don't know what return I expected but ultimately I felt that the time I was spending did not provide enough.

I had tweeted, though some I'm sure missed it that I am moving 600 miles to San Antonio Texas on Aug 1. It is possible that after I am settled in there for a while that I may want to try again. All the encouraging positive feedback is an indication that I may have been connecting better than I realized. In the mean time I may be posting more to this blog.

Hi Andi

You were one of the first people I started following. I'll miss reading your debates with others. I understand your concern about the time you spend on twitter, I've recently started worrying about my twitter time too while my rss reader fills up sooo quickly I no longer seem to be able to catch up. I'll add your blog to it though. :)

Regards

Hettie

Wow, I'm going to miss your tweets too. I saw a different side of you via Twitter than I had on other forums, and I was really enjoying your commentary. It made me wish Twitter had a way for tweeters to earn from their streams, or something to make it self-sustaining / worth their time. Perhaps that's still coming, who knows.

As much as I enjoy Twitter, I agree it can be a huge timesink, and I did wonder how you were managing to keep up with it all. I didn't even know you had a blog - I've added it to my feeds immediately.

Alas, Twitter is going to be a less interesting, less engaging place as of today. Though there is some irony that this discussion is taking place on another Ev Williams platform :)

Andi - thanks for the response. I hope for your speedy return, although it looks like you are actively tweeting today. I am taking that as I good sign. :) P.S. I find tweeting from my blackberry is the best for me - it limits my time spent given the teeny keyboard, although allows for me to read/tweet when I have time.
